Seasons

January   - March

The beginning of the year generally offers the best skiing conditions; the area is transformed into a winter playground with many crisp, clear, sunny days and the mountain scenery at its most stunning.  Every year Zakopane hosts a major international winter sports event usually beginning in January with the world cup series in ski jumping.

April – June

Springtime is a great time to head for one of the many walking trails and blow off the winter cobwebs.  During April the crocuses start to bloom making it a wonderful time to admire the flora and fauna – great for the artist & photographer.

July – August

Peak summer season with lots going on in the town – cultural and recreational events are held – the largest being the Mountain Folklore festival which has been held during the last week of August for around 40 years.  The mountains and forests are full of wildlife and with temperatures in town reaching 30 degrees why not head for the cooler mountain trails and take in the wonderful views – binoculars and camera essential!

September – November

September through to October can be a good month for hiking or biking – the days are still long with good weather but the area is less crowded.  November is a rest time after the busy tourist season before gearing up for the ski season.

December

Christmas in Zakopane is a unique experience.  The town gets beautifully decorated, usually with a covering of fresh snow.

New Year is welcomed with bonfires and fireworks all over the area - definitely something to be experienced!

Horse drawn sleighs with torches can be seen everywhere and horse bells heard all over the town – a real winter wonderland!
